The Government recently announced that between 2019 and 2020 there was a 16% increase in Research and Development (R&D) Tax Credit claims. Since R&D Tax Credits became available in 2000, billions of pounds have been handed out each year to qualifying companies. While manufacturing and software companies have dominated the credit claims, there have been far fewer claims from the construction sector, including from designers, trades, and suppliers. This is partly because the language around tax credits is geared more towards other industries, so most construction companies disqualify themselves.

In this talk David Fribbins, of Randee, unpacks what R&D Tax Credits are. He explains what Research and Development looks like in construction using real examples. Plus, there will be plenty of time for attendees to ask David about their own projects and businesses.

Learning outcomes

  • Understanding of what R&D looks like in construction.
  • A look at how different advisor approaches and how to avoid fraud.
  • Access to a quick claim value calculator to apply to your own business.

Meet your speaker

David comes from a construction background. As the financial director for a structural waterproofing company, he spent a lot of time playing with concrete and finding creative ways to stop buildings from flooding or falling down. After applying for R&D Tax Credits for his own construction firm, David took the opportunity to hang up his hi-vis and start his business Randee.

Bridging the technical and the financial, David’s knowledge and experience helps him understand whether his client’s projects are innovative or just normal practice. To date, David has helped find and claim over £1million for clients in the construction sector, most of whom didn’t even know they qualified.
